Gatsby × Casino Glam: A 50th Birthday Milestone That Transformed a Backyard into a 1920s Speakeasy

Turning 50 is a milestone worth celebrating in unforgettable style — and this Gatsby × Casino–themed birthday partydid exactly that. Hosted in a private Scottsdale backyard, this event blended Art Deco elegance, black-and-gold glamour, and high-energy entertainment to create a night guests will be talking about for years.

From a custom-designed backdrop and chandelier installation to live performers and casino tables, every inch of the space was transformed into a luxurious 1920s speakeasy worthy of Gatsby himself.

✨ The Vision: Sophisticated Casino Meets Gatsby Glam

It all started during the 2024 holiday season when our client reached out with a special request:

“My husband is turning 50, and I want to make a statement. He loves the casino — but I don’t want it to feel like the usual cheesy red and yellow casino theme. I want something elevated and unforgettable.”

From that single conversation, our creative wheels started turning. We knew we wanted to transform a classic casino concept into something elegant and editorial — a design that felt timeless, dramatic, and immersive.

That’s where the idea of merging Gatsby-era Art Deco glamour with a casino night twist was born. We chose a black and gold palette, layered with shimmer, sculptural shapes, and bold statement décor to set the tone for a night unlike any other.

🛠️ Custom Design Details: Bringing the Vision to Life

The Backdrop & Chandelier

We started with a 3D black arch, painted to perfection and fitted with custom gold Art Deco fan panels that we designed digitally and had handcrafted by our wood artisans. Behind it, a shimmering black-and-gold art deco panel created depth and drama.

The showstopper? A three-tier scalloped glass chandelier, retrofitted by an electrician to be plug-in ready. Each scalloped piece was painstakingly attached by hand, and when it lit up, it turned the entire backdrop into a glowing centerpiece.

Every detail mattered — from the chandelier’s scalloped glass to the custom signage.

🎈 Balloons, Shimmer, and Dance Floor

Because this event took place in the Arizona summer, we worked tirelessly to create balloon garlands in heat-resistant black and gold, fanning dramatically around the backdrop.

We installed a black-and-white checkered dance floor from our vendor friends at Bright Rentals — a nod to Gatsby’s lavish parties, and the perfect stage for the entertainment lineup.

The dance floor and balloon garlands brought the entire Art Deco scene to life.

♠️ Casino Night Experience

No casino-themed birthday is complete without real gaming action. Guests were treated to a full casino setup — including tables, chips, and spinning roulette — for an authentic experience.

🎻 Entertainment that Stole the Show

To create a truly immersive experience, we brought in live performers and entertainers that elevated the night beyond décor.

Gatsby parties are all about opulence. Our Champagne Skirt Girl, dressed in black, gold, and pearls, greeted guests with bubbly upon arrival — instantly transporting them to the Roaring Twenties.

Aerialist Performance ✨

Later in the night, the entertainment reached new heights with a lollipop aerialist whose performance stole the spotlight.

🍸 Signature Cocktails & Luxe Details

Our Muddle Fresh Luxury Mobile Bar kept the cocktails flowing with a curated Gatsby-inspired menu — including smoked Old Fashioneds, Strawberry Mint Drops, and Espresso Martinis.

Even the bar menu featured custom Art Deco design elements to stay on theme.

🍰 The Cake & Finishing Touches

The cake from Dolly's Kitchen AZ was a black, white, and gold Art Deco masterpiece — perfectly complementing the backdrop behind it. Additional touches like oversized playing cards, shimmer walls, and gold balloon clusters created a cohesive, cinematic experience.

The cake echoed the geometric elegance of the entire event.
